Project Transaquam

Transaquam Medium (abbreviated: TAQM) is a multidimensional, interdisciplinary international project in which historians (professors, researchers, and students) from numerous universities, in collaboration with experts from other fields, present historical and history-related content from the Adriatic region and its wider hinterland in the pre-industrial era on selected social media networks. We do this in a manner dictated by the nature, characteristics, and rules of social media aimed primarily at younger generations. The project is based at the Department of History of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, at the Center for Public History.

The content presented is primarily microhistorical in nature, based on events, actions, situations, and the fates of individuals, groups, and communities. The stories presented are based on the results of our own research, teaching, and study work. They are based on our own findings, which we have obtained through historiographical analysis and processing of unpublished and rarely used historical sources. The content is usually presented in the form of short videos on social networks. Longer video content is available on online platforms for publishing longer video contributions.

The project has five main objectives:

To present the history of the Adriatic region and its wider hinterland in the pre-industrial era to target groups in a professional and informative manner, explicitly taking into account the spirit of pre-industrial times and the basic elements of the society of that time, its mentalities, and identity structures;

To strengthen and spread awareness among target groups about the importance of knowledge and science and, consequently, the importance of research and the active pursuit of scientific truth for the existence, development, and consolidation of a just and democratic society.

Together with scientists and experts in the field of visual communications and economic sciences, actively monitor and study the reception of content published on social media networks among target groups in an interdisciplinary manner;

Establishing a mechanism for cooperation between faculties in the field of humanities and the economy, support units for the economy, state, regional and local tourism promoters and other economic development entities;

Enabling history students at participating universities to access the knowledge and skills of presenting historiographical knowledge in virtual space, especially on social media networks, in such a way that this presentation is accompanied by the indisputable expertise they achieve through their studies, successful also due to the mastery of other skills and systematic business planning.

Project duration:
