Introduction.
Basic methods of educational research.
Types of educational research.
Empirical and theoretical research. Descriptive and explicative research. Basic and applicative research. Developmental research. Evaluation research. Longitudinal and transverse research. Historical research.
Inductive and deductive cognitive path in the field of education. Sources of educational research.
Phases of non-experimental empirical research.
Procedures of collecting data in educational research: surveys, interviews, measurement scales, opinion scales, sociometric techniques and systematic monitoring, instruments for knowledge measurement. The use of literature in research. Contents notes from the sources.
Bibliographical data about sources. Documenting quotations, summaries etc. with the adequate indication of sources.
Research report. The report structure of basic types of research.
Basic characteristics of qualitative methodology. The comparison of quantitative and qualitative methodology from the ontological and epistemological point of view.

Types of qualitative research:
- case study,
- action research,
- biographical research,
- methodology of subject based theory.

The main phases of the qualitative research course:
- defining problem,
- theoretical frame explanation,
- the selection of research units,
- collecting empirical material,
- editing research material,
- qualitative analysis and interpretation,
- writing the research report.

The possibilities of combining the use of quantitative and qualitative methodology in research work.
