While writing the master’s thesis, which is a synthesis of knowledge in comparative linguistics and/or related disciplines acquired during the program, students learn how to apply this knowledge to solving a concrete problem. In this, they demonstrate their familiarity with and understanding of methodology by displaying a synthetic knowledge of phonology, morphology, inflectional morphology, syntax, and/or semantics of the basic ancient or archaic Indo-European languages and their reconstruction. While writing the thesis, students experience the effectiveness of the comparative and/or other methods in studying the development of languages in practice. Special attention is dedicated to their computer literacy.
