Introductory lectures are devoted to a short presentation of space and history of Eastern Europe. They are followed by the review of current problems of ways of life in “transitional” countries, critical overview of literature by Western “transitologists” and scarce responses of domestic researchers. The course focuses on the critique of the myth of post-socialism and on the search for similarities to post-colonial research. With reading of selected texts with specific accentuation on studies of the contemporary ways of life current developments in ethnology and socio-cultural anthropology of Eastern, Central and South-Eastern Europe is presented.
