On the basis of folklore material and comparative research the students become acquainted with traditional European folk beliefs and their functions. The emphasis is on comparative approach. Discussed are the following topics: concept of space, time, temporal and spatial boundaries, notions about death and life after death, soul and double, people endowed with supernatural abilities, werevolves, supernatural beings, witchcraft, magic, shamanism etc. Discussed are selected case studies of contemporary ethnographic research.
