Students deepen their knowledge of vocabulary, phrases, idioms and Chinese characters, pragmatics of conversation, and honorific forms (keigo). Grammar is practiced in the scope of topics related to Japan: students in Japan, Japanese cultural events and pop culture, art, technology etc. Strong emphasis is placed on students' active participation and regular work. Students consolidate their knowledge and experience gained in the 1st year, learn approx. 400 new Chinese characters (200 in the 1st and 200 in the 2nd semester) and ca. 4000 words that can be written with ca. 800 characters; they are able to use them in different text types and levels of formality.
