This course examines the interplay of political, social and economic processes in contemporary China and the broader Chinese sphere through selected topics. Ideological concepts, political practices, economic policies and social phenomena are analysed both in the framework of Chinese history (especially modern China) as well as in the context of contemporary global developments. Each year a set of topics is selected based on their timeliness and salience. They may discuss various aspects of Chinese political and legal system, economy, international relations, developmental policies, demography and migration, environmental and health issues, media sphere, social activism, consumption practices etc.
