Historical development and basic paradigms before and after the emergence of political anthropology. The problem of government and the state in the light of political philosophy, sociology, and anthropology. Historical origins and applications of the approaches of cultural evolutionism, functionalism, structuralism, political economy, and processualism.
Special attention is given to the history of the West's social constructions against "peoples without history" and postcolonial discourse on the "Third World," "developing countries," etc. Differences between nomadic and sedentary life, between kinship and territorial identification, and other conceptual pairs in political anthropology. Learning about contemporary sources of political power and contradictions.
In keeping with the development of specialization and the demands of modern society, the course also considers the insights of ecological, symbolic, and psychological anthropology and makes other interdisciplinary connections.
Examples from Slovenian political history and the present are linked to examples from around the world.
