The basic concepts of the theory of drama, Aristotle’s views on drama and an overview of the various theoretical approaches to Shakespeare’s plays, particularly in the second half of the 20th century, including the most recent trends in contemporary Shakespeare criticism.
The life and works of William Shakespeare, the Elizabethan period, and the beginnings of English theatre.
A detailed analysis of his major tragedies and some of the comedies, and the different possibilities of staging.
Establishing intertextual literary connections between the plays and individual English literary authors, Shakespeare’s immense international influence and his place in the English literary canon.
