The contentof the course subject is divided into the following basic topics: history of conservation in Slovenia and abroad; methods, techniques and methodology of conservation; protection models and forms of work standards as well as normative and obligatory protection at the local, national and international level. The purpose of the course is to introduce the students to ethnological and anthropological aspects and methods of assessment and identification of cultural and natural heritage as well as how to develop their skills in specific and compatible methods for the interdisciplinary field of conservation activities. The course also focuses on the strengthening and development of interdisciplinary expert competences and the introduction of contemporary ethnological and anthropological kowledge on heritage, monuments, protected areas, and landscapes. The conservation theories of protection are presented comparatively: Slovenia and international trends. Practical areas of protection are addressed too, such as spatial planning, legal protection, agrarian, artisanal, and industrial economy, tourism, education at all levels of the educational process, and the popularisation of protection activities.
Tutorials are an integral part of the course. They are conducted in the form of several days fieldwork in Slovenia and beyond. Their purpose is to monitor protection of expert renovations of cultural heritage and measures for nature and landscape protection. They encourage a positive attitude towards heritage and expert evaluation of renovation procedures and protection measures.
