German for Translators III

The course is divided into two units:
a) German Grammar 3
b) German Language and Translation 2
a) German Grammar 3
Students will gain familiarity with the syntax of the German language. The course will focus on classification of sentences according to different criteria (Satz: Satztyp, Satzform, Satzart), word order in the German sentence (Vorfeld, Nachfeld, Rahmenkonstruktion, Ausrahmung) and overview of subordinate clauses. Special emphasis will be placed on the relationship between the structure, meaning and function, as well as a comparison with Slovene, whereby students will be encouraged to develop effective translation strategies
b) German Language and Translation 2:
Special emphasis will be placed on speaking, reading and listening skills as well as on general and specialized vocabulary building, collocations etc.
Analysis of source and target texts. Discussion of specific translation problems. Discussion of linguistic and cultural issues in the source and target language environments
