Critical Museology and Museum Education

During the course, students will become familiar with contemporary research, topics and approaches in museums, especially those that critically address current museum practice, museum organizational structures and the production of knowledge systems, in the light of an ethical (and transparent) attitude and responsibility towards nature and society, especially vulnerable social groups. In the following, they will learn about museum pedagogy and andragogy, public realtions and communication, research and audience development, as well as museum evaluation. In the context of museum pedagogy, in addition to classical pedagogy, the course will address the concepts of critical pedagogy (P. Freire, H. A. Giroux, P. McLaren...), experiential pedagogy (D. A. Kolb), principles of free choice of learning (J. H. Falk and L. D. Dierking), collaboration (participation) of heritage communities and heritage holders in museums.
