Course Gender and body consists of the following thematic sections: Biological and/or social body (medicalization (of the female) body); social /cultural and discursive construction of the body (strong body, weak body); political/social power and the body (controlled bodies: the punishment of the body from classic to modern physical torment, battered body (concentration camps), and the identity of the body (the body as its own creation, diet, fitness, bodybuilding, cosmetic surgery) body and reproduction (controlling women's bodies, women's reproductive rights, contraception, new reproductive technologies, etc.); media representations of the body (fashion and body, body and consumerism, advertising industry and visual use and misuse of the (female) body; veiling and disclosure of the body in different cultures and religions, "normal" and handicapped body; selling the body (pornography, prostitution, human trafficking); illness and eating disorders (overeating, anorexia, bulimia).
