Razpis za izmenjavo na St Mary's College of Maryland v ZDA

Na St Mary's College of Maryland so letos ponovno objavili razpis za izmenjavo posebej za naše študente in študentke. Kot vsako leto bo en/a študent/ka Oddelka za anglistiko in amerikanistiko FF lahko študiral/a na SMCM brez plačila šolnine (ta sicer znaša približno 15.000 USD). Prav tako se bo izbrani kandidat oz. izbrana kandidatka lahko prijavil/a na razpis Javnega štipendijskega sklada RS za kritje stroškov potovanja in štipendijo. Kljub stroškom za nastanitev, prehrano, vizo in zdravstveno zavarovanje je to še vedno ena od bolj ugodnih možnosti za študij v ZDA. St Mary's College ponuja za nas zelo zanimive predmete in obštudijske dejavnosti, predvsem pa je dragocena sama izkušnja študija na ameriški univerzi, ki je precej drugačna od tiste v Sloveniji. Razpis je namenjen študentom in študentkam višjih letnikov prve stopnje, kot tudi tistim na magistrskem študiju.

Notice of Slovene Exchange Program with St. Mary’s College of Maryland

Study Abroad in America for One Semester

The University of Ljubljana English Department and St. Mary’s College of Maryland are once again sponsoring a semester abroad experience in the United States. Students selected will take courses at St. Mary’s. Preference will be given to students who haven’t previously studied abroad in an English-speaking country. Questions may be directed to Dr. Anamarija Šporčič, English Department, University of Ljubljana.

To apply, applicants should submit:

--a cover letter describing your interest in literature and explaining why you would like to study in the United States and why you think you would be a good candidate;

--an academic essay on a literary subject, either one that you have submitted for a course or one written for the occasion;

--the name and email address of a faculty member at the Ljubljana English Department who knows your work; and

--a transcript of the courses you have taken at the University of Ljubljana (please translate the transcript)

Submitting the application:

--The materials above should be sent to Dr. Jennifer Cognard-Black, Coordinator of the Slovene Exchange Program, by Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at jcognard@smcm.edu. Besides these English Department requirements, all applicants must submit the basic application information on the general SMCM Inbound Exchange Application on Via TRM (https://smcm.via-trm.com/) by March 22nd.  Interviews will be arranged the week after the application deadline, and scholarship recipients will be notified the week after that.

Exchange Program Arrangements:

Acceptance to the program includes:

--tuition for three or four four-credit courses (8 ECTS each);

--all campus privileges enjoyed by St. Mary’s students, including use of the gym and other facilities and participation in student clubs and activities; and

--the support of the Office of International Education, which includes orientation and specially designed field trips.

The awardee is responsible for:

--visa costs (around $340);

--costs of accommodation and meals (around $7000);

--health insurance (around $700 for the Fall semester);

--required shots;

--the student will be asked to apply for travel funds from Slovenia; if s/he doesn’t receive these funds, the student will receive up to $400 to help with travel expenses.

Students experiencing financial hardship may request further funds.

After the student awardee is accepted but before arrival, s//he will also be asked to furnish:

--a copy of their immunization record (in English)

--results of a TB (Tuberculosis) Test, administered by a doctor or hospital

–proof of a US-approved COVID-19 vaccination and booster

Student orientation in Fall 2022 begins about a week before class starts, in late August, with the first class starting the following Monday, August 29th. Student visas allow students to remain in the country a month past the end of the semester (or to January 15, 2023).
