- torek, 16. maj 2023, med 18.00 in 19.40, v predavalnici 232: Preverjanje in potrjevanje avtorstva: tradicionalna filologija in računalniška stilometrija / Authorship attribution and authorship verification: traditional philology and computational stylometry
Povzetek (v angleškem jeziku):
The term stylometry refers to the measurement of textual stylistic affinities, used to address various literary issues, such as authorship, chronology, or text history. In authorship studies, the stylistic characteristics of an unknown text are compared to the established profiles of known authors, a process commonly known as authorship attribution. Over the past 30 years, computational stylometry has made significant progress, and numerous techniques have been proposed, culminating in the development of machine-learning classification models.
In this lecture, the history of stylometric studies will be briefly presented, with all its ups and downs. As an example, the case of the famous Indian philosopher Śaṅkara (7th-8th century) will be presented, to whom a large number of texts are attributed, many of which he certainly did not write himself. The lecture will present the challenges in preparing electronic text for analysis and will introduce the General Imposters Framework method, particularly suitable for verifying authorship. The reliability of the method will be evaluated using examples of texts whose authors are known. Finally, the results of the research on the works attributed to Śaṅkara will be presented, which, however, will not bring anything significantly different from what was previously suggested using traditional philological methods of determining authorship. In addition, I would like to point out the relationship between computer-based quantitative methods and traditional philological criticism and how both approaches can (or must) be combined.
- sreda, 17. maj 2023, med 9.40 in 11.20, v predavalnici 426: Upanišade: začetki indijske filozofije / Upaniṣads: Beginnings of Indian Philosophy
Povzetek (v angleškem jeziku):
In this lecture, the Upaniṣadic text corpus will first be introduced, along with its position in the Vedic corpus, their chronology, and textual history. Following that, the intellectual and spiritual content contained within them will be presented. The Upaniṣadic thought will be outlined through the prism of cosmology, psychology, and physiology, and then eschatology and the related doctrine of the unity of Ātman and Brahman. Several selected excerpts (Br̥hadāraṇyaka-Upaniṣad II 4/IV 5; Chāndogya-Upaniṣad VI) will be carefully presented and discussed. Although the Upaniṣads seem heterogeneous, as they were created over a long period of time and contain the teachings of different schools, numerous connections between them are evident.
- četrtek, 18. maj 2023, med 8.00 in 9.40, v predavalnici 434: Vedānta: od eksegeze upanišad do metodologije osvoboditve / Vedānta: From Upaniṣadic Exegesis to Methodology of Liberation
Povzetek (v angleškem jeziku):
In this lecture, the philosophical school of Vedānta, which arose as a system of interpretation of Upaniṣadic texts, will be presented. The early history of the school and its foundational text, Brahma-Sūtras, will be briefly presented and described. Then, the philosophy of Vedānta will be explained, highlighting its exegetical and hermeneutical character, as well as the foundational philosophical teachings reflected in the early school of Bhedābheda-vāda and later interpretations of Brahma-Sūtra in the monistic school of Advaita-Vedānta. Special emphasis will be placed on the great philosopher Śaṅkara, the most famous representative of the Advaita-Vedānta school.
- petek, 19. maj 2023, med 13.00 in 15.30, v predavalnici 05: Vélika sanskrtska epa Mahābhārata in Rāmāyaṇa / The Great Sanskrit Epics Mahābhārata and Rāmāyaṇa
Povzetek (v angleškem jeziku):

Their character, literary properties, but especially their religious and spiritual aspects will be also discussed.
